New Bluff-top Closed Escrow: 1933 El Camino de la Luz

1933 El Camino de la Luz, on the oceanfront in Santa Barbara’s Mesa neighborhood, has closed escrow in a private sale for $900,000.

1933 El Camino de la Luz is a modest 1,784 square foot cottage built in 1955 with 5 bedrooms and 1.5 baths. It occupies two parcels, one of which is bluff-top, down a flag lot with a non-oceanfront home behind at the street side. It has panoramic ocean and island views and a large 100′ of ocean frontage.

However, the property was subject to a major landslide in the late 1970’s, reportedly losing approximately 1 million cubic feet of land and causing the oceanfront lot to drop approximately 35′ in elevation. Given this highly questionable soils stability, obtaining a permit to build a new residence on the site may prove extremely difficult.

1933 El Camino de la Luz sold privately for $900,000 in November 2012. It had been owned for decades by the previous owner.
